In ‘Five minutes with a Therapist’ we find out more about the unsung heros of day spas and retreats.
The spotlight this time shines on Lucy Volkmann, Senior Therapist at Natskin Spa Retreat at Balgownie Estate, Yarra Valley.
What training did you do to get to your current position?
15 years ago I was looking for a change. My wanted a career where I could make people feel better about themselves inside and out. I completed my massage and skin qualifications at Box Hill Tafe, and also studied with a Naturopath. I have since upgraded my skills with many external courses. This is very important to me as thing change over the years. Once at Natskin I was then trained in their philosophies and treatments.
How did you come to work at Natskin?
I came to Natskin through very difficult and sad circumstances. I managed a day spa at the fire ravaged Marysville. As the saying goes a door shuts and a window opens. It took me several months to settle into my new job as I had many emotional scars. Through the love, support and kindness of my new work colleges I came through. In a way this job saved me.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
My favourite part of my job is customer satisfaction and the educating of my clients. A healthy body and relaxed state of mind are paramount to healthy skin and good life.
What is your top relaxation tip?
Relaxation is one of the hardest thing to achieve easily. Regular massage, walking and a nice bath seems to do the trick.

Natskin is situated in a beautiful, peaceful setting nestled within the vineyards of the Yarra Valley. Clients feel at ease upon entering, enjoying the idealistic spa setting, smells and ambience.
What is your top beauty tip?
My top beauty tip would be to be healthy and kind to yourself and most importantly have a good facial routine.
If you could visit any spa in the world where would it be?
My dream spa spot would be Gwinganna. They have a very holistic philosophy.
What is your 'can't live without' spa treatment?
My 'cant live without' spa treatment - would definitely be any body treatment.
What is your skin care routine?
I am very careful with my skin routine. I always cleanse twice a day. Never go to bed with any makeup on. I exfoliate twice a week.I then use a treatment cream and serum to finish off.
What is your favourite spa product?
My favourite spa product is Sothys. I use all their products.
Is there a treatment that you'd love to try but have never had the chance?
If I could try one treatment that I haven't tried before it would be the Sound room treatment.
What is your favourite thing about Natskin?
I feel very lucky and blessed to work and be a part of the Natkin team. We have fantastic training, philosophies, commitment to clients and fun. I always tell anyone who asked that i don't work I get paid for doing what I
love.
