The Hunter Valley is the heart of wine country in New South Wales and rich with historic importance when it comes to putting wine on the global map in Australia. The French gave this region a tick of approval far back in the mid 1800’s. With a hot, humid summer and cool winter the signature wines of this region are Chardonnay, Shiraz and Semillon. Just two hours from Sydney and over an hour from Newcastle, the Hunter Valley is a good region to explore in a car. Although there are many coach tours and bus links from both Cities, you can also take the train from Newcastle.
