The my spa guide to makeovers - what to bring, how to prepare and our very own top tips.
What are makeovers?
Many spas offer makeup services to spruce you up before you leave the spa, after your treatments as well as for bridal parties and special occasions.
Some spas will also offer make up lessons as part of services.
Do I have to bring my own makeup along?
A spa offering these services will have a brand of makeup which they use and are familiar with so they will know what the foundations look like on different skin tones and what the eye shadows really look like when applied.
Top Tip:
If you have a specific shade of lippie in mind to match your outfit for that special occasion or you want your favourite colour you can bring your own lipstick to the spa and ask them to apply it.
If you are having your makeup done for your wedding most spas will advise you to have a trial make up session done and of course this costs additional money.
What happens before and during my makeup application?
The therapist will ensure that you are seated in a area where there is good natural light - this may be in the reception area or front of house so don’t be surprised if you aren’t whisked away into a treatment room, these are usually fairly dimly lit rooms with not much natural light, not the best for applying makeup.
The therapist will begin by discussing your requirements and will work with you to choose colour and style before they apply anything to your skin.
Having your make up applied can take anywhere between 30mins and 1 hour.
If you fall in love with the lippie or shade of eye shadow that the spa have used you can usually purchase the makeup products from them to use to touch up during the day and night of your occasion or to use yourself in the future.
Top Tip:
If you don’t like the colour of eye shadow or lipstick that the therapist is suggesting speak up! You are the one who is paying for the makeup and you are the one who is going to have to wear it so if you aren’t comfortable say so and a good spa will change the colour to suit you.
As with all spa treatments you should always advise the spa if you have any allergies or if you are or maybe pregnant so that they can ensure the treatment and products used are suitable for you.
