For beautiful buffed and polished skin, here all your questions are answered in our guide to scrubs, polishes and exfoliation treatments.
What is a scrub or polish?
A scrub or body polish is an exfoliation treatment for the body.
What happens when I arrive for the treatment?
You will either be asked to undress in the treatment room and hop up on the bed under a towel, or you will be directed to a changing room where you will be given a locker containing a robe for you to wear on your short trip to the treatment room.
What happens during the treatment?
You will lie on a massage bed or wet room table for the treatment. Sugar or salts are usually mixed with warm oil and massaged over the skin to remove dead and damaged skin cells leaving your skin smooth and baby soft, they literally polishing your skin!
The scrub or polish is showered off during the treatment and this will either be done in a bath / shower unit in the treatment room or if the whole treatment takes place in a wet room with a specially designed table that you lie on during the entire treatment you will be showered without moving off the table using either a hand held shower or a Vichy shower (link to spa dictionary), total indulgence! Some spas may use steamed towels to remove the scrub or polish.
Once the scrub or polish has been removed and you have dried off you will return to lie on the dry table and your skin will be moisturised with body lotion or oil by the therapist.
What’s the difference between scrubs/polishes?
Many spas will have their own signature scrubs which use different types of polish, they could mix the sugar or salt with a herbal oil, they may use sea salt or they might use fruit based oils.
As with all spa treatments you should always advise the spa if you have any allergies or if you are or maybe pregnant so that they can ensure the treatment and products used are suitable for you.
